BREAKING: UCL draw to be retaken!

World News

UEFA has announced that the Champions League last 16 draw is set to be redone following errors in the initial process.

Controversy unfolded in the UCL draw earlier on Monday afternoon after multiple errors that were in breach of the regulations occurred.

Manchester United and Villarreal were drawn in the same pot despite being in the same group earlier in the tournament.

Liverpool was also included in the draw to potentially play against Atletico Madrid even though they finished first and second respectively in Group B.

Meanwhile, Manchester United was not included in Atletico Madrid's draw, and were subsequently matched with Paris Saint-Germain.

The European football governing body promptly released a statement to confirm a redraw will take place as a result.

"Following a technical problem with the software of an external service provider that instructs the officials as to which teams are eligible to play each other, a material error occurred in the draw for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16," a statement from UEFA read.

"As a result of this, the draw has been declared void and will be entirely redone at 15:00 CET (16:00 South African time)."
