Big-name Chelsea stars to be sold?

World News

European champions Chelsea are reportedly facing the risk of selling some of their big-name players amid Roman Abramovich's planned departure.

Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the United Kingdom government began clamping down on all Russian businesses and oligarchs, as they began sanctioning their investments.

Among them of course, is the Blues' owner who also had to put up his portfolio of property up for sale as he faces growing pressure from various British institutions.

On 26 February, the billionaire announced that he would step down from the daily running of his club, and hand over the "stewardship and care" to the Chelsea Charity Foundation.

However, on 2 March, he confirmed that he was in fact selling the club, which meant his almost 19-year stay at Stamford Bridge would imminently end.

Reports have now suggested that his exit, could see an exodus of key role players at the club, from top management down to the squad.

The Athletic claims that chairman Bruce Buck, director Marina Granovskaia, and technical Petr Cech will follow Abramovich out of the door.

It is understood that Granovskaia's possible exit could affect Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Andreas Christensen's futures as all three of them have expiring contracts at the end of the season - which is something that the 47-year-old was gaining ground on.

The West Londoners are also said to be likely to sell other players that they had no intention of letting go in the next window, although those names are yet to be decided.

In the meantime, the club is yet to be sold but in terms of player exits, Christensen seems the likeliest to leave from the trio, as journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that the Danish defender was close to joining FC Barcelona
