Man Utd & Barca 'out of race' for R1.5bn star

World News

Manchester United and FC Barcelona have reportedly decided to pull out of the race to sign one of their top targets.

Earlier in June, it was claimed that Wolverhampton Wanderers and Portugal midfielder Ruben Neves was open to leaving the Premier League club, with the player being of interest to a number of top clubs, including United, Barca and Arsenal.

However, it soon became clear that a deal for the Portuguese star would be difficult to pull off as Bruno Lage's side slapped a huge price tag of £75 million (R1.5 billion) on the former FC Porto midfielder.

According to The Sun, Wolves have, as a result, won the battle to keep Neves, with the three aforementioned teams having decided to pull out of the race for his signature.

It is said the interested clubs believe the 25-year-old, who has two years left on his contract, is not worth more than £45 million (R892 million).

Recent reports have suggested that the Red Devils have thus turned their full attention to securing Frenkie de Jong's signature, while Barca are set to announce Franck Kessie as the latest addition to their midfield.

The Gunners, meanwhile, are reportedly targeting Leicester City star Youri Tielemans to bolster their squad ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
