'Barca is Messi's place, he will return'

World News

Diego Maradona's son has insisted that Lionel Messi will be an FC Barcelona player once again.

Messi's Paris Saint-Germain stay has not gone according to plan so far, with the 34-year-old having often been subjected to criticism by the French press and pundits alike for failing to reach the heights expected of him.

The forward was an influential figure at Barca for countless seasons and after his move to PSG was confirmed in August 2021, more of the same was anticipated from him, but he is yet to deliver on a consistent basis for the Ligue 1 giants.

The Argentina skipper has also inadvertently been demoted to a less prominent role in the team as Kylian Mbappe's sensational form – he has 22 goals and 16 assists in just 33 matches – has made him the club's go-to man this season.

With Messi struggling to find his feet in the French capital, Maradona's son Diego Sinagra believes the Albiceleste No. 10 will return to his boyhood club.

"I am convinced that Leo Messi will return to Barca," Sinagra said in an interview with Sport.

"Maybe this coming summer. He doesn't look happy there [at PSG].

"Obviously, he is a great player and when you play like that, you show it wherever he is.

"But his place is in Barcelona, without a doubt."

Sinagra also feels that the Blaugrana have been affected by the loss of their record goalscorer.

"What club was not going to suffer his loss? For me, they are coping well," he added.

"If I say that Barca plays with [Ousmane] Dembele, [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang and Ferran [Torres], with [Adama] Traore, [Frenkie] De Jong is out. It's a team."
