Algeria 5-0 Zambia

Africa Cup of Nations holders Algeria started their qualifying campaign with a 5-0 hammering of Zambia in Group H at the Stade Mustapha Tacker.

Algeria were ahead at halftime through Ramy Bensebaini on 44 minutes. A penalty from Baghdad Bounedjah on 68 minutes doubled their advantage.

Youcef Belaili netted the third in the final 15 minutes before Hilal Soudani provided the fifth on 86 minutes leaving Bounedjah to a brace and the side’s fifth at the death.

Egypt 1-1 Kenya

Egypt started their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign on a sombre note after a 1-1 draw against Kenya at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Group G.

The Egyptians, who were without Mohamed Salah, took a 42nd minute lead through Mahmoud Kahraba but Michael Olunga forced a share of the spoils on 67 minutes.

Egypt trail group leaders Comoros by three points following the latter’s shock 1-0 win over Togo in the group’s other clash.

Mozambique 2-0 Rwanda

Mozambique began their qualifying campaign with a 2-0 victory over Rwanda at the National Stadium in Maputo.

Telinho gifted the Mozambicans the lead on 28 minutes before Edson Mexer doubled their advantage within two minutes, putting the Mozambicans on top of Group F in the process.

Togo 0-1 Comoros

Togo were stunned 1-0 by the Comoros Islands in Group G’s other clash at the Stade de Kegue in the capital city Lome.

Comoros steadied the ship thoroughly and stole the lead on 51 minutes courtesy of Faiz Selemanie following a goalless first half, starting their campaign on a bright note.

Democratic Republic Congo 0-0 Gabon

Democratic Republic Congo and Gabon cancelled out each other with a goalless draw in a Group E clash in Kinshasha.

Mali 2-2 Guinea

Mali were pegged back at home by Guinea, who pushed to a 2-2 draw in a West African derby in Group A in Bamako.

Adama Traore put the Malians off the mark on 56 minutes but Naby Keita levelled on 66 minutes before Salif Keita restored the hosts lead five minutes later.

Sekou Conde wiped out the strike in the next five minutes to force a stalemate.
