'It's a pity for Brugge that Tau left'

Former Belgium international Thomas Buffel believes Club Brugge might be regretting not extending Percy Tau's stay at the club.

The Bafana Bafana star spent the 2019/20 season on loan at the Jan Breydel Stadium from Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, scoring three goals in 18 league appearances to help Brugge win the Jupiler Pro League title.

The reigning champions ultimately elected not to extend the former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker's short-term stay at the club, however, with the forward joining rivals Anderlecht at the beginning of the current season instead.

Buffel, whose career in Belgium saw him play for the likes of Zulte Waregem, Cercle Brugge and Genk, shared his view that the Blauw-Zwart might have made a mistake in not extending Tau's loan deal.

"In the last few matches, I saw how Tau was very skilful at dribbling. He has also scored a number of goals," Buffel said, per VoetbalPrimeur h/t Unibet Experts.

"His assists and passing could perhaps be a little better, but he is a player you like to see play. It is a pity for Club Brugge that he left. After all, he is someone who can force something in the small spaces when it is difficult."
