RCS to sign Mothiba replacement?

Strasbourg manager Thierry Laurey has responded to speculation that they may dip into the transfer market after Lebo Mothiba was ruled out with injury until 2021.

Mothiba, 24, has become an integral part of the Strasbourg squad since his arrival from domestic rivals LOSC Lille in August 2018 and his tireless performances have endeared himself as a firm fan favourite.

However, after suffering a recurring knee injury in pre-season ahead of the 2020/21 Ligue 1 campaign, Laurey confirmed he will undergo surgery and be ruled out for five to six months.

With Mothiba now likely to miss half of the new season, speculation has emerged that RCS will look to rope in a replacement to cope with his absence, which Laurey suggests may not be the case.

"Not necessarily, because we know he's going to come back," he said when asked about signing a replacement, as per French news outlet DNA.

"We hope that he will come back 'new' without recurring problems. We will already work with the boys who are able. And we will see in the coming weeks whether to recruit or not, without rushing."

Mothiba has netted 31 goals in 104 games in the top two tiers of French football since making his professional breakthrough with Lille four years ago.
