Bafana Bafana head coach Stuart Baxter has opened the door to Esteghlal FC star Ayanda Patosi for a potential return to the national team after a two-and-a-half-year absence.
Patosi, 26, has enjoyed an impressive 2018/19 season with Cape Town City and the Iran giants with several match winning displays.
Before leaving for the Persian Gulf Pro League in January for a six-month loan deal, the ASD Academy graduate netted five goals and registered two assists in 12 starts - and his form has continued abroad.
After missing the first three games due to work-permit issues revolving his lack of international appearances over the past two years, Patosi made an instant impact with three goals in his first three league starts.
With the eight-time Iran top-flight champions now within a mathematical chance of winning the league title with two games remaining, Baxter admits he's cognizant of what the 12-time capped South African could offer the national team.
"Ayanda has matured and has given some impressive performances. The question is how do I best create balance in the squad and team,” Baxter tells KickOff. "He certainly has pushed himself into the picture."
Overall, Patosi has made 17 goals contributions (nine goals, eight assists) in 34 games for the Citizens and The Pride of Asia respectively.
