Did Mourinho scupper Zungu move?

Bafana Bafana star Bongani Zungu suffered heartbreak on transfer deadline day and the reason for the failed move to LaLiga was seemingly through a decision of Jose Mourinho.

Zungu, 27, was on the verge of becoming the sixth South African to ply his trade in the Spanish top-flight with Real Mallorca and Amiens coming to a reported six-month loan agreement.

It's believed the deal included a €5 million (R80m) option to make the loan permanent at the end of the season but Amiens eventually pulled the plug in the final hours of the mid-season window.

According to reports in French media, the club was set to sign Victor Wanyama from Tottenham as the replacement for Zungu, with the Kenya star out of favour under Mourinho.

But the Portuguese tactician was believed to be reluctant to release the towering midfielder with the recent injury troubles at Spurs.

While Wayama's wages has also been a major stumbling block to find a new move, Mourinho's alleged decision has now gone down well after he was not registered for the club's UEFA Champions League squad.

According to Standard Media, Wanyama is now seeking for the club to terminate his contract in order to join a new side outside the transfer window after only earning 23 minutes of Premier League football this season.

Meanwhile,  Zungu returned back to France where he featured in the 0-0 draw with Olympique Lyon and the 2-1 defeat to AS Monaco.
