A Paris Saint-Germain star has revealed that Lionel Messi once "wanted to kill" him after overhearing a comment he had made during a UEFA Champions League match.

Leandro Paredes and Messi are believed to have formed a tight-knit relationship in France, with some reports suggesting the former is the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner's "guard dog" at the club.

The pair are teammates for both Argentina and their club, but their relationship was reportedly tested during a heated UEFA Champions League clash in the 2020/21 campaign, when Messi was still playing for FC Barcelona.

Kylian Mbappe had helped PSG secure a comfortable 4-1 win in the first leg of the round of 16 clash, before the French giants secured a 1-1 draw in the return fixture to go through to the next stage.

In a recent interview with Caja Negra, Paredes revealed how an upset Messi reacted to an off-hand remark he had made to his PSG teammates during the tie.

"He got angry, because I had made a comment to my teammates and he heard me, and he got angry," the 27-year-old explained, per the Daily Mail.

"He became really angry. He f***ed me up. It was bad. He wanted to kill me and I wanted to go home.

"Afterwards I saw him in the national team and he acted as if nothing had happened.

"He showed me what he is like as a person. The relationship continued as it was.

"Now, when the conversation comes up, we talk about it and laugh, but he was really angry at the time - he wanted to kill me!"
