PSG 'make approach' for Lionel Messi

Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly already made an approach to sign Lionel Messi after it was confirmed that FC Barcelona would not be offering the Argentine a new deal.

Messi was said to have agreed to a new five-year contract at the Camp Nou, but the Spanish club announced on Thursday night that they were unable to complete the deal due to "financial and structural obstacles (Spanish Liga regulations)".

Almost immediately after the news broke, rumours about the Argentine's next potential destination spread like wildfire, with some believing Angel Di Maria had provided a clue in this regard.

Just the day before, he had uploaded a photo to Instagram of himself and PSG teammates Leandro Paredes, Neymar, and Marco Verratti, as well as Messi, while out on holiday.

Transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio has since reported that the Ligue 1 side has already made an approach for the six-time Ballon d'Or winner, seemingly in a bid to reunite Neymar with his friend and also in the hope that this move will convince Kylian Mbappe to sign a contract extension.

Les Parisiens are believed to be one of the very few teams in the world that could actually afford Messi's salary, while reports in England suggest that Manchester City also have a chance to sign the forward due to his relationship with former Blaugrana boss Pep Guardiola.
