Nice stun Messi's PSG in shock loss

Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain suffered their third loss of the Ligue 1 campaign after going down 1-0 to OGC Nice on Saturday evening.

There were no Kylian Mbappe for PSG, who sat out because of suspension but it opened the pairing of Neymar Junior, Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria in the visitors front-three pairing.

Nice enjoyed the bright opening in the first six minutes and were unfortunate not to go ahead when Amine Gouiri guided a layoff from Kasper Dolberg narrowly off target.

The Parisans quickly showed forth amidst the underwhelming start and threatened the lead from the counter-attack by Di Maria, but goalkeeper Walter Benitez produced a good save.

Little in the way of clear-cut scoring opportunities happened from the host and the Parisans later in the first half, thus it finished goalless at the course of the interval.

With no substitutions from either side following the restart, Nice looked to make the breakthrough from a move high up the pitch by Khephren Thuram but the visitors cleared.

PSG were not deterred by any stretch and began to work chances a little into the second period, with Messi and Neymar at the heart of every threat set forth by them.

The deadlock were certain to be broken towards the closing quarter from a foul on Marco Verratti which led to a free-kick, but it was spurned by Neymar.

Argentine international Mauro Icardi entered in the last 12 minutes to inject some energy in the Parisans attack, as his countryman Di Maria made way for him.

It didn’t bring a joy as Nice snatched winner two minutes from time when Andy Delort drilled in a volley at the back-post from Calvin Stengs and left the Parisans stunned.
