Mbappe reaches massive landmark

Ligue 1

Kylian Mbappe reached a massive landmark with Paris Saint-Germain following his brace in their 2-0 win over his former club AS Monaco on Sunday night.

The French forward opened the scoring with a penalty in the 12th minute and later grabbed a second just before half-time after Lionel Messi had set him up, with their fruitful partnership recently proving decisive – the pair both scored braces in the UEFA Champions League last week too.

With his latest two strikes, Mbappe has now scored 100 Ligue 1 goals since moving to the French giants in 2017, according to sports.ndtv.

This feat was reached in just 124 matches, and the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner also created 38 assists in this time.

Following the result, Monaco are now eighth on the league table, five points adrift of the top three, while Les Parisiens continue to lead at the summit, ahead of second-placed Marseille by 13 points.

During a post-match interview, Mbappe spoke about how important he felt the three points against his former team were.

"Paris made the difference in the first half too," the 22-year-old told Amazon Prime.

"We played three games this week. I think there was a lot of intensity in the first half, we killed the match there.

"It's true that I think we could have done more, but it was also up to them to come and get us. In the second half, the pace dropped significantly.

"There might have been less quality, but we won. We did the most important."

His head coach Mauricio Pochettino heaped praise on the forward after his match-winning performance.

"It was a professional performance and we deserved to win," he told Amazon Prime.

"Kylian was extraordinary once again.

"We are very pleased with our results, but we can improve our performances."

Mbappe has now scored 13 goals and provided 14 assists in just 23 matches across all competitions for PSG this season.
