Zidane comments on Messi, Barca drama


Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane has played down the recent fallout between Lionel Messi and FC Barcelona.

Messi, 32, recently called out the club's sporting director Eric Abidal about his comments surrounding the controversial sacking of Ernesto Valverde.

And with his body language and performances telling within the current upheaval, a host of Europe's elite, including Pep Guardiola is said to be monitoring the situation.

But Zidane believes the drama will have little effect on the title race this season, as Los Blancos currently lead Barca by three points after 22 rounds of fixtures.

"It's never like that, it's not about that," Zidane said, as per the Daily Star. "They're not going to be weak, they're a very competitive team.

"We're not thinking about that for one minute. They will compete with us until the end of the season. Good players are always good."

Real travel to Osasuna on Sunday to continue their league title pursuit after their surprise Copa del Rey exit at the hands of Real Sociedad on Thursday evening.
