LaLiga: Benzema treble sinks Bilbao


Karim Benzema grabbed the headlines as his hat-trick inspired Real Madrid to victory, while Getafe edged close to securing fourth spot in LaLiga on Sunday.

Real Madrid 3-0 Athletic Bilbao

Real Madrid returned to winning ways in the league with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao.

Los Blancos dominated for large parts of the first half but were unable to open the scoring.

However, Karim Benzema took over in the second half by netting a hat-trick to take his tally to 21 for the season.

Gefate 3-0 Sevilla

Getafe took a big step towards clinching fourth spot after defeating Sevilla 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Jorge Molina netted a brace after Jamie Mata opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the first half.

Both sides also finished the game with 10 men as Sevilla had Sergio Escudero sent off before the break while Getafe's Djené Dakonam was sent off in the final 15 minutes.

Levante 2-2 Espanyol

Levante missed the chance to ease their relegation fears after drawing 2-2 with Espanyol on Sunday afternoon.

Ruben Vezo and Ruben Rochina were on target for the home side, while Borja Iglesias and Marc Roca  netted for the visitors.

Levante also finished the game with 10 men after Rochina received his marching orders with 17 minutes remaining in the half.

Villarreal 2-1 Leganes

Villarreal continue pull away from the relegation zone after defeating Leganes 2-1 on Sunday evening.

Carlos Bacca and Karl Toko Ekambi got the goals for the Yellow Submarine, who moved up to 14th spot with the victory.

Real Betis 1-2 Valencia

Valencia remain touching distance of fourth spot following a 2-1 victory over Real Betis on Sunday evening.

Gonçalo Guedes netted a brace to guide the visitors to victory, as they moved to within two points of fourth-place Getafe.

Giovani Lo Celso, who made his switch to Betis permanent from Paris Saint-Germain, netted a consolation for the hosts.
