'Pele too embarrassed to leave home'

Brazil legend Pele has "a kind of depression" and is too "embarrassed" to leave his own home, according to his son.

Edinho, the 49-year-old son of the three-time FIFA World Cup winner, told TV Globo: "He's pretty fragile. He had a hip replacement and didn't have an adequate or ideal rehabilitation."

He admitted he had argued with his father because he had not done the physiotherapy required after a hip operation.

"He has this problem with mobility and that has set off a kind of depression. Imagine, he's the king, he was always such an imposing figure and today he can't walk properly.

"He's embarrassed, he doesn't want to go out, be seen, or do practically anything that involves leaving the house," he added. "He is very sheepish, reclusive."

Pele, who turns 80 in October and is widely considered as one of the greatest footballers of all-time, is the record scorer for the Selecao with 77 goals in 92 games.
