Nigeria back on winning trail in WCQ

FIFA World Cup 2022

Central African Republic 0-2 Nigeria

Nigeria avenged Thursday’s loss to the Central African Republic with a 2-0 win in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Group C at the Stade Omnisports on Sunday.

CAR claimed the scalp of the Super Eagles three days ago and were buoyed, but Leon Balogun and Victor Osimhen’s first half efforts decided otherwise and handed their side victory.

Benin 0-1 Tanzania

Tanzania went to the top of Group J with a 1-0 win over Benin days after losing to the same outfit by the same score-line in Dar es-Salaam.

As such, Simon Msuva’s strike ensured the Taifa Stars go joint leaders of the group with the outfit of Benin amidst their previous set-back.

Uganda 1-0 Rwanda

Uganda consolidated second spot in Group E on the back of yet another narrow 1-0 win over Rwanda out at the St Mary’s Stadium.

Thursday’s match winner Fahad Bayo was once again the match winner for the Cranes with a first half finish, leaving the visitors rock bottom and winless from four matches contested.

Kenya 0-1 Mali

Kenya’s disappointing start to their qualifying campaign in Group E continued as a 1-0 loss to Mali left them winless from four matches thus far.

Meanwhile, Mali who thumped the Harambee Stars 5-0 in the reverse fixture cemented top spot courtesy of Ibrahima Kone’s winner late on in the encounter.

Zambia 1-1 Equatorial Guinea

Zambia’s qualifying journey to next year’s World Cup finals endured another blip with a 1-1 draw at home to the Equatorial Guinea.

Francis Sakala’s opener in the second half looked to set Chipolopolo to victory, but Federico Bikoro rescued the counterparts for a point apiece.

Cape Verde Islands 1-0 Liberia

Cape Verde Islands boosted their qualification hopes once again through a late 1-0 win over Liberia at the Stadium Aderito Sena.

With a goalless draw looming, forward Ryan Mendes netted the winning strike with virtually the last kick of the game to see the Blue Sharks second on the table behind Group J’s leaders Nigeria.

Madagascar 1-0 Democratic Republic Congo

Madagascar’s three-match losing streak in Group J ended following a 1-0 victory over the Democratic Republic Congo.

This triumph also served as revenge for the host after losing the corresponding fixture, as Njiva Rakotoharimalala netted the winner.
