Pitso: Al Ahly underdogs for Bayern clash

FIFA Club World Cup

Al Ahly boss Pitso Mosimane has commented on his side's prospects of causing an upset against Bayern Munich after reaching the FIFA Club World Cup semi-finals.

The reigning African champions kicked off their 2020 FIFA Club World Cup campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Qatari hosts Al Duhail on Thursday evening, courtesy of a well-taken goal from midfielder Hussein El Shahat.

Ahly's triumph saw the club progress to the semi-finals of the prestigious competition, where they will meet European champions Bayern Munich, with Mexican side Tigres taking on South American representatives Palmeiras in the other tie.

Speaking after the match, head coach Mosimane played down his team's chances of causing an upset against the tournament favourites, insisting that his players will be going out to simply enjoy themselves.

"To play Bayern Munich, we are having fun," Mosimane told FIFA.com. "I mean, what do you expect out of us against Bayern? We have got nothing to lose. But to have fun. Everything to gain. It's a big team. A team that beat Barcelona 8-2. Who are we? We're just going to have fun."

Whether Mosimane is playing mind games or being sincere remains to be seen, but the Club of the Century could make history with victory over the Bavarians by becoming only the third-ever African side to reach the final of the tournament, after TP Mazembe and Raja Casablanca.

Both the Congolese and Moroccan outfits fell short at the final hurdle, however, meaning Ahly could become the first side from the continent to claim the coveted trophy should they go all the way and win the competition.
