“FC Barcelona and Valencia CF have reached an agreement that will bring André Gomes to the Catalan capital,” read a statement on the club’s official website. “Gomes will formalise the deal and be officially presented as a new FC Barcelona player next week.”
The 22-year-old midfielder came through the youth ranks at Porto before joining rivals Benfica in 2012, and then joined Valencia on loan in 2014. Gomes arrives at the Nou Camp having scored eight goals in 75 games, yet high on confidence after helping his national team take continental honours at Euro 2016.
Gomes is the latest of a strong on new recruits at Barca, joining French defensive duo Samuel Umtiti and Lucas Digne, as well as midfielder Denis Suárez as the Catalan club’s new signings ahead of the 2016/17 campaign.
