Ruthless Man City hit 7 past Leeds

English Premier League

Manchester City ran riot at the Etihad as they dispatched Leeds United 7-0 to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League on Tuesday evening.

There were re-calls for John Stones, Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne and Jack Grealish in City’s starting line-up, while Leeds went for an unchanged first eleven personnel.

City made the ideal start when Foden attacked a loose clearance from the visitors on eight minutes to tuck into an empty net minutes after Bernardo Silva squandered a sitter.

The Citizens claimed a second goal five minutes later from a ball into the centre of the area by Riyad Mahrez which saw Grealish charge to head in easily as Leeds struggled to deal with a corner-kick.

A third arrived nearer to the halftime stage after a ball into space from the middle freed De Bruyne, who ran to the left of the area to send a thumping shot beyond Illan Meslier.

With Silva withdrawn and Ilkay Gundogan introduced, City made it four minutes in the second half when Mahrez’s shot from the left of the area deflected into the back of the net.

City continued to target more despite the healthy advantage, as the visitors probed a turnaround with a curler outside the area from Stuart Dallas beating the face of the post.

Shortly after Foden had a goal disallowed for offside, City nabbed a fifth goal inside 62 minutes from a powerful effort outside the area by De Bruyne following misplaced possession by Leeds.

The champions secured a sixth goal ten minutes later as Stones needed three attempts to slam a loose ball in the area beyond Meslier who had smothered two of the three efforts.

It turned into a nightmare for Leeds with over ten minutes to go when Nathan Ake got the seventh goal to head in a corner, as Guardiola's men cemented top spot for another match day.
