Liverpool 3-1 Newcastle United

Liverpool moved to with in a point of Premier League leaders Manchester City with a 3-1 victory over Newcastle United.

The Reds were without Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho and Divock Origi who tested positive for Covid-19.

Newcastle took a surprising lead in the seven minute when Thiago Alcantara's poor pass found Jonjo Shelvey, who fired a superb strike into the far corner from the edge of the box.

The Reds eventually got back on level terms through Diogo Jota who bundled the ball home from close range on 21 minutes as Newcastle failed to clear their lines.

Four minutes later, the turnaround was complete as Mohamed Salah bagged his 15th goal of the season by slotting into an empty net after Sadio Mane had his strike saved.

It took a while, but the hosts got the third goal in the 87th minute courtesy of a stunning strike from Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Chelsea 1-1 Everton

Chelsea endured a frustrating evening at Stamford Bridge after playing to a 1-1 draw against Everton on Thursday night.

The first half failed to provide any goals, but Thomas Tuchel's side broke the deadlock in the 70th minute courtesy of a finish from Mason Mount after being teed up by Reece James.

That lead did not last long as Anthony Gordon's free-kick caught out the Blues defence and found Jarrad Branthwaite, who made no mistake from close range.

That proved to be the final goal as the Blues now sit four points Man City while the Toffees remain in 14th position.
