OFFICIAL: Liverpool's new signing confirmed

English Premier League

It has been confirmed that Liverpool have officially reached an agreement for their second signing ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

The Reds have agreed a deal with Benfica to sign striker Darwin Nunez for a fee of €75 million (R1.2 billion), plus €25 million (R420 million) in add-ons to take the package to €100 million (R1.6 billion), according to the Portuguese club.

Per The Athletic, the 22-year-old will earn around €6 million (R100 million) annually on a six-year deal at Anfield.

Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid had shown interest in the striker, but Jurgen Klopp's side have now won the race for his services.

"In the early morning hours of this Monday (0:44 am), Sport Lisboa e Benfica – Futebol, SAD informed the Securities Market Commission (CMVM) that it had reached an agreement with Liverpool FC for the sale of all rights to the player Darwin Nunez, for the amount of 75 million euros," a statement on Benfica's official website read.

"The agreement provides for the payment of a variable remuneration, so the global amount of the sale could reach the amount of 100 million euros.

"It is further informed that the aforementioned agreement is dependent on the signing of the player's sports employment contract with Liverpool FC."

It is understood that personal terms still need to be agreed and a medical still needs to be undertaken, both of which are expected to be completed on Monday.
