Bayern CEO lauds 'African Messi'

English Premier League

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rumminegge has lauded Mohamed Salah as Africa's Lionel Messi.

Bayern chief Rumminegge was speaking during a recent interview when he revealed his admiration for Salah, and shared his view that the Egyptian forward's recent achievements were comparable to those of Messi and long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

"In my opinion, Salah is the Messi of Africa, and of course he got the skills to play in the best teams in the world," the 65-year-old is reported to have said, per On Time Sports h/t KingFut. "What he has achieved can be compared to what Messi and Ronaldo did with Barcelona and Real Madrid."

Salah has recently been linked with a move away from Liverpool, with the likes of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona said to be on his radar, but, despite his admiration, Rummingge has no immediate plans to try to lure the two-time African Footballer of the Year away from Anfield.

"At the moment we don’t plan on signing Salah, but certainly it would be an honour to have him," the former West Germany international added.

Salah currently the leading goalscorer in the Premier League this season, with 16 goals for the campaign, and will be looking to win his third Golden Boot award with the Reds by maintaining his goalscoring form and beating off competition from the likes of Harry Kane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, among others.
