Man United to sign club legend's son?

English Premier League

Following David de Gea's disappointing form in goal this season, Manchester United are reportedly planning to replace him with Kasper Schmeichel, the son of Red Devils club legend Peter Schmeichel.

With first-choice goalkeeper De Gea having looked out of sorts this season, United are reportedly considering replacing the Spain international ahead of the 2020/21 campaign, with a number of possible candidates identified.

Dean Henderson, who spent the season on loan at Sheffield United, has been widely backed to return to Old Trafford following his stellar performances in the Premier League, while the Red Devils have also been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid shot-stopper Jan Oblak.

According to The Sport Review, though, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains unconvinced that Henderson can fill De Gea's gloves, while Oblak's asking price could also prove a stumbling block to any deal.

As a result, the Manchester giants have reportedly turned their attention to Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who is the son of club legend Peter Schmeichel, to fill the role between the sticks next season.

Solskjaer reportedly views the 33-year-old Denmark international as a "ready-made" replacement for the once-undroppable Spaniard, and the Foxes stopper would be available at a far more reasonable price than Oblak, while also allowing Henderson more time to develop.
