Man Utd 'to rival' 'Pool's €100m bid

English Premier League

Following news that Liverpool have launched a club-record bid for a South American star, Manchester United have reportedly signalled their intention to rival the Merseyside club in their pursuit of the striker.

On Wednesday, it was claimed that Jurgen Klopp's side had made a huge €100 million (R1.6 billion) offer to Benfica for Darwin Nunez's services.

If this bid were to be accepted, he would become Liverpool's most expensive signing in their history.

However, according to ESPN, United have not been put off by the interest shown in the player by the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League finalists, and plan to rival them for the Uruguay forward's signature.

It is further claimed that even though Nunez is keen on playing UCL football next season, something the Red Devils cannot offer, Erik ten Hag's side believe the 22-year-old can be convinced to move to Old Trafford.

Both teams reportedly have an issue with the Portuguese side's valuation of the forward after they had initially quoted a fee of more than €128 million (R2.1 billion) for the player, although there is now a feeling that a bid over €93 million (R1.5 billion) would be considered given that Nunez is keen on an exit.

The Premier League duo could face some competition to secure Nunez's playing future, though, as a number of Spanish clubs are also believed to be monitoring the situation.
