Pogba primed for world-record swap deal?

English Premier League

Manchester United star Paul Pogba has found himself at the centre of a proposed transfer that would break the record for the most valuable swap deal in football's history.

On Friday morning, reports from Italy suggested that Juventus had made a decision to offload star forward Paulo Dybala, and that the Serie A champions were preparing to use the Argentina star as part of a deal to re-sign Pogba.

It is claimed the Bianconeri board has promised new manager Andrea Pirlo "a great midfielder" and that the club is willing to go to extreme lengths to make that happen, including the sale of Serie A's 2019/20 Most Valuable Player.

With Pogba and Dybala boasting a combined market value of €152 million (R3.1 billion), a swap deal involving the two players would be the most valuable in football's history, far surpassing FC Barcelona and Inter Milan's deal involving Samuel Eto'o and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2009.

At the time, Ibrahimovic and Eto'o swap boasted a combined value of €85 million (R1.7 billion), which, even when combined with the additional transfer fee paid for the Swede, pales in comparison to the value of Juventus' proposed transaction.

Pogba, who started his career in Manchester prior to his move to Juve in 2012, scored 34 goals in 178 appearances during his time with the Italian giants before returning to Old Trafford in 2016, and has been linked with a return to Turin on a perennial basis ever since.
