Silva: Absence due to premature son

English Premier League

The Spain international missed the Citizens’ last two encounters - the victory at Newcastle and the goalless draw against Crystal Palace which saw City’s 18-match winning run in the Premier League come to an end.

Manager Pep Guardiola already revealed Silva’s absence was due to a personal issue and the midfielder has since explained the situation.

"I want to share with you the birth of my son Mateo, who was born extremely preterm and is fighting day by day with the help of the medical team," Silva posted on Twitter.

Silva is now expected to return to the fold when City take on Burnley in the FA Cup on Saturday, as well as next week’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Bristol City.
