The Citizens have the chance to open a 15-point gap at the summit as they face Newcastle United in the top-flight this evening, the last game for Pep Guardiola’s men for 2017.
And while City already look destined to clinch the league crown, Kompany knows anything can happen in the title race, given the fact they themselves overcame an eight-point deficit in 2012 to clinch the trophy.
Kompany said: ”I don't know if everyone will remember but it was six games left and we were eight points behind, so that's why I am always the first to come in and say, 'No guys, we can't really take the foot off the gas'.
"I really don't want that.
"We push, we push, we push, and no one has the right to let their performance down or their guard down."
