Man arrested after Sterling ‘hate’ attack

English Premier League

The England international is believed to have been racially abused and attacked prior to Saturday’s 4-1 Premier League win over Tottenham, where Sterling scored twice.

Local police have since confirmed they have arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of racially aggravated assault and are treating the case as a hate crime.

Detective chief inspector Paul Walker said: "Racism will not be tolerated in Greater Manchester and has no place in civilised society. We take every report incredibly seriously."

City are yet to comment on the allegation or arrest.
