Rosicky retires from football

English Premier League

The ex-Czech Republic international made his name with the Gunners during a 10-year stay in north London before heading back home in 2016 to play for Sparta Prague, where he started out as an academy player.

And the playmaker, who helped Arsenal to back-to-back FA Cup success in 2014 and 2015, has confirmed he has hung up his playing boots, largely due to the physical demands of playing the game professionally.

"After careful consideration, I have realised I am no longer able to fully prepare my body for what the professional football requires," said Rosicky, whose decade-long stay with the Gunners was largely marred by injury.

"I would like to thank Sparta for raising me, for being the first step in my career in big clubs, and for allowing me to say goodbye at the place I love the most."
