Brighton through to fourth round

English Premier League

Both coaches opted to make changes for the encounter, as Wilfried Zaha, Christian Benteke and Ruben Loftus Cheek were the big names missing for Palace.

It was the home side who broke the deadlock in the 27th minute as Dale Stephens collected a pass from Ezequiel Schelotto before drilling the ball past Wayne Hennessey.

The absence of Zaha and Loftus-Cheek certainly had an effect on the Eagles, who struggled to bypass the Brighton defence in the first half.

It took a while for Palace to get going, but they eventually leveled matters in the 68th minute through Bakary Sako's superb long range effort.

Brighton had to wait until the 87th minute to secure the winning goal when substitute Glen Murray found the back of the net by turning home Uwe Hunemeier's header with the slightest of touches.

The Seagulls will now face Championship side Middlesbrough in the next round of the competition.
