United eventually took the lead after 18 minutes as Paul Pogba's impressive touch set up Fred, who drilled the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
United's goal pretty much came against the run of as Wolves were looking threatening with the pace of their wingers.
However, the newly promoted outfit could not carve out another chances for the remainder of the half as United went into the break leading.
Wolves hit back shortly after the halftime break thanks to superb left-footed effort from Joao Moutinho that left De Gea with no chance.
Jesse Lingard nearly restored United's lead in the 65th minute, but Rui Patrico produced a good save to tip the midfielder's long range effort over the crossbar.

Jose Mourinho's charges were camped in the Wolves for the remainder of the second half as they went in search of a winning goal.
