Beckham buys stake in English club

England legend David Beckham has acquired a stake to become a part owner alongside the class of '92 at National League club Salford City FC.

Beckham will now join fellow 'class on 92' members Gary and Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt with the majority share of 60% of the side who've enjoyed three promotions in four seasons.

The remaining 40% is owned by billionaire Peter Lim, the Singaporean business mogul also owns LaLiga outfit Valencia.

Beckham already owns American club Inter Miami, who will join Major League Soccer in 2020.

"It is a really special club with a special group of people," said Beckham, as per the BBC. "My early years in Manchester were all spent in Salford.

"I grew up there in many ways so to be able to finally join the lads and the club today is a great feeling.

"Salford City has achieved so much success in a short space of time, the fans are incredible and I'm really excited to be spending more time in Salford again."

The fifth-tier side is currently on track for promotion to the English Football League for the first time in the club's history as the financial backing of the United legends maintain their meteoric rise through the divisions.
