Ronaldo 'wants' Portugal star at Man Utd

English Premier League

Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly been asking one of his Portugal teammates via texts to join him at Old Trafford in the next transfer window.

There have been reports that Ronaldo could leave United if they fail to secure qualification for next season's UEFA Champions League, although he has another year remaining on his contract.

Despite that speculation, though, it is claimed the 37-year-old is now trying to link up with a compatriot of his at Old Trafford next season.

The Red Devils have quite a few midfielders on their books, including Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, Fred and Scott McTominay, as well as Donny van de Beek, who is on loan at Everton until the end of the season.

This has not prevented the club from being linked with other players for the position, though, especially as Pogba could leave the Theatre of Dreams when his contract expires in four months.

With United understood to be looking at potential replacements for the Frenchman, it has now been claimed by the Daily Mirror that Ronaldo has decided to assist the club in attempting to lure one of his international teammates, Joao Palhinha, to Manchester in the next window.

It is said the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has been messaging the Sporting Lisbon star in a bid to persuade him to sign for the Red Devils, a move the Premier League giants are said to be in support of as they have already sent scouts to watch the defensive midfielder in action.

Ralf Rangnick's men are widely expected to sign at least one midfielder in the next window, with West Ham United's Declan Rice and RB Leipzig's Christopher Nkunku, among many others, having also been linked with the Red Devils.
