A late Kelechi Iheanacho penalty gave Leicester City a 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the Community Shield final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

In the seventh minute, Daniel Amartey tried to win the ball from Ferran Torres and gave away a free-kick in a dangerous position. Ilkay Gundogan curled a great effort towards the top-left corner, but Kasper Schmeichel got across to turn it over the bar.

In the 16th minute, Benjamin Mendy angled a dangerous cross in from the left flank and Caglar Soyuncu diverted the ball towards his own goal, but it travelled just over the bar.

Three minutes later, A mistake from Youri Tielemans allowed Mendy to release Mahrez into the final third and the Algerian cut inside and shot on his left foot, only to see his effort deflected over the bar.

Jamie Vardy had a glorious chance to give the Foxes the lead on the stroke of half-time. Vardy latched on to a cross from Harvey Barnes at the back post and steered a left-footed strike towards goal but Zack Steffen managed to get enough on the effort to divert it on to the post and out.

Ten minutes after the interval, Mahrez and Samuel Edozie combined with a short-corner routine that saw the latter send a low cross into the box. It was deflected out as far as Gundogan, who had space and time to line up a drive, only to send his effort over the bar.

Jack Grealish came on for City in the 65th minute as the £100million man replaced Edozie in the final third. Ten minutes after taking to the field, Grealish sent Bernardo Silva down the left flank, but the Portuguese flashed his delivery across the face of goal.

Brendan Rodgers' side won a penalty in the 87th minute when Nathan Ake lost possession to Kelechi Iheanacho and then brought down the forward inside the box. The Nigerian forward dusted himself off and fired into the top left corner with Steffen getting a hand to it on its way in.
