Tau's Brighton future in doubt?

The manager who signed Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau for Premier League side Brighton has been sacked after leading the club to safety.

Chris Hughton, 60, lead the Seagulls to the English top-flight for the first time in 34-years and managed to secure their status over the past two seasons.

The only black manager remaining in the division signed Tau at the start of the season after an impressive season with 2017/18 season Mameldodi Sundowns but work-permit issues resulted in a loan switch to an affiliate club in Belgium.

Tau's future at the Seagulls will naturally come into question with the former Newcastle Unied manager receiving his marching orders - especially with the permit issues yet to be resolved.

"Chris has done an excellent job over the past four and a half years," Chairman Tony Bloom said in a statement. "First stabilising our club, reaching the play-offs in his first full season, securing our first ever promotion to the Premier League, and retaining our status in two successive seasons.

"Undoubtedly, this has been one of the most difficult decisions I have had to make as chairman of Brighton & Hove Albion, but ultimately one I have made due to how we struggled in the second half of the season.

"Our run of 3 wins from 23 Premier League matches put our status at significant risk. It is with that in mind, and the performances during that period, that I now feel it’s the right time for a change."

Hughton recorded 88 wins, 57 draws and 70 defeats in 215 games in charge since being appointed by the South Coast outfit in December 2014.
