Simba poach CAFCL rivals' coach

CAF Champions League

Tanzanian Premier League champions Simba SC have confirmed the appointment of Didier Gomes as their next head coach.

Gomes, 51, left his role with Sudanese giants Al-Merrikh SC after leading them to the group stages of the CAF Champions League and succeeds Sven Vanderbroek who left Simba for FAR Rabat earlier this month.

Simba, who are grouped alongside the Sudanese side, Al Ahly and AS Vita, were reportedly considering South African coaches Eric Tinkler and Clinton Larsen for the role.

However, the Frenchman who holds a UEFA A License was given the nod due to his experience on the continent, having won league titles Cameroon and Guinea with Coton Sport and Horoya respectively.

Gomes will now be tasked to retain the Vodacom Premier League with rivals Young Africans currently at the summit with a nine-point lead albeit having played three games more.
