Mosimane: Bucs lacked experience

CAF Champions League

Pirates suffered an exit from the premier contnental showpiece after failing to overcome Horoya in their final group encounter in Conakry three weeks ago.

Despite their failed efforst to reach the knockout stage, Mosimane paid tribute to their progress in their first campaign since finishing runners-up in 2013, noting that the players have the necessary quality but merely lacked experience.

"It was Orlando Pirates' first year of Champions League after some time, and they really, really did well to go to the group stages," said Mosimane.

"And the players didn't have experience – [Thembinkosi] Lorch hasn't played Champions League [before]. I told you five or six weeks before, that they [Pirates] have the quality but in Champions League it's not the game, it's a lot of things around the game.

"So, Lorch got experience; [Augustine[ Mulenga got experience. I think Happy Jele is the only guy, and Wayne Sandilands, who has been there. But [Alfred] Ndengane has never played Champions League before, so you can see that they lacked the experience.

"But it comes with time, they have a good team with a quality coach – or coaches, so they will come up. It's a question of time."
