Sundowns have grown to become one of the top sides on the African continent, due to their consistent participation in the CAF Champions League under coach Pitso Mosimane, who

This is a game that is going to determine our level of play, where we are on the continent, because Al Ahly is not just any team that we face in the competition, but we are also not just a walk in the park. We are Mamelodi Sundowns and everybody on the continent knows it’s never easy to come to South Africa and get a result,” the former Black Leopards midfielder said.

“We are looking forward to raising the flag of South Africa high. It’s unfortunate that Pirates were knocked out and now we have to carry the flag alone. But we have been in this situation and we know the responsibility.”

Sundowns played to a goalless draw with Orlando Pirates in the Absa Premiership on Monday and Mabunda says the match was good preparation ahead of the Ahly encounter.

“The game against Pirates was very important for us and we are grateful that we were able to face a team like them before we face Al Ahly, because it gave us a taste of what we are going to face on Saturday.

“The team is ready and we are looking forward to it. We know that it’s not going to be a walk in the park, it’s not going to be easy. We know our coach has a plan for every team we face and we trust his judgement. And we know how to switch our focus from the league and concentrate on the Champions League because we have been through this kind of situation for many years and it has been working for us, the way we juggle the two competitions at the same time.”
