Mamelodi Sundowns will face Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in the CAF Champions League semifinals after securing their passage in Egypt on Saturday.
The Brazilians lost 1-0 to Al Ahly in Alexandria in the second leg of their quarterfinal tie but advance to the last four with a 5-1 aggregate victory after crushing the record eight-time champions in the first leg.
Pitso Mosimane's side will now meet a familiar foe in Wydad in the next round, the same team that ended above them on the head-to-head rule in Group A when Sundowns won the first leg 2-1 at home and lost 1-0 in Morocco.
Wydad secured their path to the last four after a 5-0 trashing of Horoya following a goalless first leg.
The other semifinal will see defending champions Esperance of Tunisia take on Congolese giants TP Mazembe.
Esperance had no issues getting past Algerian club CS Constantine with a 3-1 second-leg victory, resulting in a 6-3 aggregate triumph.
Five-time African champions Mazembe cruised through with a 4-1 aggregate victory over Tanzania’s Simba SC at the Stade TP Mazembe following a goalless first leg.
The CAF Champions League semifinals are scheduled for the weekends of April 26 and May 3, with the exact dates and times still to be confirmed.
