Pitso Mosimane's Al Ahly registered a 1-0 win over Simba SC in their final CAF Champions League group stage encounter on Friday night.
A strong eleven from the Cairo Red Devils in their group stage finale showed, as goalkeeper and captain Mohamed El-Shenawy led the way for the Egyptian giants.
Quiet and slow best summed up the first few exchanges of the match which saw no clear-cut openings around the final area of the pitch from any sides.
It is a sequence of play that came to pass two minutes from the half-hour mark after Mohamed Sherif propped up with a poachers finish to put Mosimane’s side in the driving seat.
Simba made a strong end to the half following smart runs on and off the ball and around the latter area of the pitch but despite the invention, the Tanzanians still couldn’t open up Ahly.
There was a substitution for the Red Devils at the halftime period, with Taher Mohamed introduced ahead of fellow attacker Junior Ajayi.
Simba carried their strong end to the first half over to the second stanza a little from the break and amidst the host’ defensive and offensive efficacy, the Tanzanians weren’t fazed at all.
Mosimane’s boys began to live more and more on the edge towards the final stages, with a free-kick from a promising area by Luis Miquissone nearly giving Simba the equaliser.
There was action on either end as the match headed to the end in particular Mzamiru Yassin’s snap shot from inside the area hitting the crossbar thus it finished 1-0 in favour of the holders.
