Lukong went down several times claiming he was injured in the 2-1 loss to Sundowns at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
Despite the defeat, the Congolese visitors advanced to the group stages of the tournament on away goals courtesy of their 1-0 victory in Kinshasa on April 10.
“These kind of things happen in football, especially when playing against a good team like Sundowns. You have to do that,” Lukong tells KickOff.com.
“The defenders sometimes feel tired and you have to do that to calm down their energy. That's part of football. In Africa you have to do everything to win a game.”
The Vita captain, however, says he was genuinely carrying a knock.
“I was injured during the big game in Kinshasa last week and was not 100 percent well during the game. I was happy that I finished the game without being substituted.”
Lukong believes his club's experience in continental competition gave them the edge on the Brazilians.
“Sundowns did well and the only difference is that we have experience in this competition. In 2014 we played the final of the Champions League.
“Sundowns is good team, we respect them but we displayed more intelligence to win the match. We were happy when we beat them 1-0 in Kinshasa without conceding because that’s where we took our advantage.”
