The league was suspended on 13 March due to the spread of the coronavirus, which has infected more than 160 000 people and claimed nearly 7 000 lives across the country.

A confirmed date for the resumption of leagues across Germany has now been decided, with fixtures set to recommence on Saturday, 16 May, included among which is the Revierderby between Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04.

The decision comes just weeks after neighbouring countries Belgium, France and Netherlands cancelled their league campaigns, and will see the Bundesliga become the first major European league to return to the pitch.

Earlier on Wednesday, Turkey had also confirmed that the Super Lig will be resuming next month, with an official restart dated pencilled in for 12 June.
