PSG 'in talks' with Pochettino's replacement

Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly opened talks with a replacement for Mauricio Pochettino, who is expected to be sacked.

A number of reports claim that PSG have already in formed Pochettino that he will be relieved of his duties as manager, although the club are yet to make an official announcement.

Zinedine Zidane has been linked with the PSG job for the past few months, but his advisor already rubbished reports that his client has agreed to take over.

However, L'Equipe have reported that on Friday the Ligue 1 champions formally opened talks with OGC Nice to bring in Christophe Galtier as the new coach.

Galtier was reportedly the choice of PSG's new sporting director Luis Campos, although the club's Qatari owners still want Zidane in charge.

Galtier worked with Campos during his time at LOSC Lille, where they won the Ligue 1 title in the 2020/21 season, ending their 10-year wait for the trophy.

Nice director of football Julien Fournier in June told PSG they shouldn't wait too long before making an approach for Galtier.

“If Paris-Saint-Germain want Christophe Galtier, they mustn’t wait too long, otherwise it will be more complicated," Fournier told L’Équipe.

“He’s under contract, that’s the reality. So he’s more likely to be at Nice than not to be. It’s very basic but it’s very true. After that, if Paris-Saint-Germain comes in for him… it’s a decision that I obviously won’t take alone.

"When this type of club comes to get one of your players or your coach, it’s hard to say ‘no’… Each passing day makes PSG’s task more difficult, because we have to move forward with next season. If they want him, they must not delay.”
