One of the biggest names playing on the African continent who's been the subject of interest from Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs has surfaced in Cape Town.

Nathan Sinkala, 28, has been one of the leading players in Africa with TP Mazembe over the past eight years winning five league titles, the CAF Champions League, the Super Cup and the Confederation Cup twice.

He also played every minute of Zambia's triumphant 2012 Africa Cup of Nations campaign as they shocked Ivory Coast in a dramatic final in Gabon.

The 53-time capped Zambia midfielder also spent time on loan in Ligue 1 with FC Sochaux and Swiss giants Grasshoppers Zurich between 2014 and 2015.

After returning to Mazembe, the Chipolopolo star is believed to have met with Mamelodi Sundowns manager Pitso Mosimane over a potential switch, while Kaizer Chiefs were also said to have shortlisted him before making the move for Anthony Akumu this month.

Having left Mazembe at the end of the 2018/19 season, Sinkala has now surfaced in Cape Town, where Stellenbosch FC have reportedly won the race for his services.

"We're in the process of something but it's not confirmed yet," Sinkala tells KickOff.com. "I think I've been at TP Mazembe for quite some time, I just want to have a new challenge.

"I know there was a lot of interest in me [Sundowns and Chiefs] but maybe those teams changed their minds, you know how it is in football.

"I think it will be quite a surprise for people to see me at Stellenbosch. They are not as big as other clubs but yeah, that's football. I just need a new challenge.

"I'm very excited to be in Cape Town, it's my first time here. I've been watching the PSL for many years and I'm just excited to be in South Africa."
