Al Ahly resumed Egyptian Premier League action with a 4-1 thrashing of Pharco to reclaim top spot on Tuesday night.

Percy Tau was left on the bench again as Pitso Mosimane handed a recall to Luis Miquissone who bagged a brace seven days ago in the league.

Al Ahly were eager to get over Saturday's loss to Sundowns and wasted no time in finding the opening after Mohamed Sherif got the break on five minutes.

The visitors did not have to wait too long for the second goal as Mohamed Afsha fired home close-range two minutes later from Rami Rabia's cross.

The early dominance continued as Al Ahly added a third goal on 13 minutes when Afsha completed his brace with another close-range after a well-worked passing move.

The goals kept flying in in the opening 20 minutes when Pharco were gifted a way back into the contest after Mohamed El Shennawy's fell to Ahmed El Sighiry, who needed no invitation to fire home from close range.

Despite the fast start to the encounter, 3-1 how as the first half ended at the Alexandria Stadium, leaving the home side with some hope heading to the second.

Tau eventually entered the pitch at the start of the second half, with Miquissone making way along with Hamdi Fathi for Mali international Aliou Dieng.

The duo's arrival did not make an immediate impact, with another substitute Hussein El Shahat rounding off the scoring for Al Ahly with three minutes left on the clock.
