Pitso Mosimane's Al Ahly climbed up to the top of the Egyptian Premier League table with a 4-0 thrashing of Misr Lel Makkasa on Tuesday evening.
Mosimane had one eye on the big CAF Champions League game against Mamelodi Sundowns this weekend, as he made wholesale changes, with the likes of goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy, Luis Miquissone and Hussein El Shahat returning.
The Red Devils had a perfect start after Miquissone gave them the lead in the 13th minute with a well drilled strike from a tight angle that found the bottom corner after a through ball by El Shahat.
Miquissone quickly doubled Al Ahly's lead and completed his brace two minutes later with a chipped effort towards the bottom corner after another defence-splitting pass by Hamdy Fathy.
The hosts were already cruising in the latter stages of the first stanza as El Shahat gave his side a commanding 3-0 lead just before the halftime break with a looped strike in the box after a great pass by Mohamed Magdi Kafsha.

Mosimane's charges were all over Misr coming from the half-time break but they were not getting clear-cut chances, as the visitors were more resistant.
The Red Devils did not have the urgency in attack and in the last 18 minutes Hossam Hassan was introduced in place of Mohamed Sherif for fresh legs upfront and Ahmed Abdelkader came on for Miquissone for the same reason in midfield.
However, late changes sparked Al Ahly back into life, as Tarek made it 4-0 for the hosts three minutes before just after coming on with a strike in the box after he was teed up by Amr El Soleya.
It could have been worse for Makkasa in the last minute after the referee pointed to the spot following a handball in the box but the penalty was reversed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), as Al Ahly went up to the top of the log by two points.
