Ronaldo lands Nike 'CR100' boots

Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has been presented with a commemorative Nike boot after becoming the first-ever European footballer to score 100 international goals.

Ronaldo achieved the historic milestone last month when he netted a brace during A Selecao's 2-0 UEFA Nations League A victory over Sweden, becoming only the second-ever male footballer to break the 100-goal barrier, and the first to do so from Europe.

The commemorative boots follow the same colour scheme as Portugal's famous red jersey, with the nation's flag imprinted on the tongue, and are adorned with gold trimmings and the characters 'CR100' along the insides.

"It's a unique sensation [to score 100 international goals] and it's a historic achievement," Ronaldo told the Portuguese Football Federation during the handover. "Now, since I'm so close, the next challenge will be beating the world record.

"Best ever national team striker... It's a career goal I hope to achieve. I am always proud to play, as I said many times, when I play for Portugal it's always as if it is the first time. And, with these 100 goal boots, it makes me proud."

The right boot has the date 12 June 2004 engraved on it, which was the date of Ronaldo's first goal for Portugal, while the left boot bears the date 8 September 2020, which was when the five-time Ballon d'Or surpassed the century-goal mark.

"Top. Incredible," the 35-year-old added. "I hope to [keep getting] new boots with new dates on them. It's a sign that I keep scoring for Portugal. Very proud, these new boots are top!"
