Five Ballon d'Or titles, a billion-dollar empire and close to being the highest scoring international goalscorer of all-time, the lifetime contract holder with Nike seemingly turns everything into gold.

CR-itism

It was no surprise to see the original AF1 offering in white and gold but certain sections of supporters felt it lacked the eccentric colours that became synonymous with his mercurial boot offerings of the past.

More options - fewer problems

With the latest alternatives now available via the official Nike store for the next six days via the customisation feature, the AF1 variant that derives from the original Bruce Kilgore design from 1982 has set tongues wagging.

At R3699, almost three times pricier than the original AF1's, which retails between R1600 and R2000 - the lure of one of football's greatest ever players has seen the demand sky-rocket since he launched the brand on Instagram.

When the first collaboration dropped in 2018, Nike claimed they were elevating a 'world-class' shoe to legendary levels and with only a select few able to secure the 2021 edition - it will no doubt be a collector's item for future generations.

The shoe was named after the aircraft that transports the United States of America president.
