Taxman swoops on Mushekwi's bus

The taxman has ordered Zimbabwean club CAPS United to return the R1.8-million lux bus that was donated by former player Nyasha Mushekwi back into their custody.

Mushekwi bought the 45-seater coach in China as a token of appreciation to United for the role they played in his development.

A week ago a welcoming party was held for the bus in Harare after the ex-Mamelodi Sundowns goal-poacher flew all the way from China to clear the bus at the Beitbridge Post Office before handing it over to CAPS United officials.

According to The Herald, Mushekwi came back to South Africa on Sunday to start training for the upcoming Chinese Super League under the supervision of his specialist coaches.

However, on Tuesday he received the news that the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) wanted the bus to be taken into their custody while they review the duty he paid for its entrance into Zimbabwe.

"I just heard they are taking the bus," Mushekwi was quoted as saying.

"It's quite disappointing, I don't understand the situation because they were the ones who told me to pay the duty, which I paid for the bus to be cleared to come home.

"Now I'm hearing they are saying the duty I paid for the bus wasn't enough for a bus like the one I brought in and, maybe, they want me to pay more, I don't really know.

"It makes you think twice when such things happen you know, and you end up asking yourself if this was worth it at all, or I could have taken whatever money I invested into the project and use it for my personal needs where I would not have to go through all these problems."

Zimbabwean players have performed several chartable acts lately, with Khama Billiat donating sports equipment to his former school and Marshall Munetsi paying school fees for 60 children back home.
